The role of boards of education in school finance was the topic for a half-day training session presented recently by HIL Consultants. The audience for the workshop was the board of education for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. HIL’s partners—Hank Hurd, Kathy Isenhour, and Ricky Lopes—were joined in the presentation by former veteran school board member Minnie Forte-Brown.
Forte-Brown is assisting HIL in a senior consultant role. In addition to training, she and the HIL team can advise superintendents and boards on leadership, navigating change, budget advocacy, and more. Forte-Brown is nationally recognized for public school advocacy and for board of education leadership. President of the NC School Boards Association, officers of the National School Boards Association and the Council of Urban Boards of Education, university professor, and other management roles are included on her extensive resume. She served on the Durham Public Schools Board of Education from2004 until 2020.
